It reminded me of my streak with Duolingo while learning Spanish. After 2-3 weeks, I was maintaining my streak just to pass the challenges.
Duolingo gamified it, and my 5-10 minutes weren't enough to keep up with the game for badges. I quit after 4 months. Realised that I wasn't learning much.
That's exactly that! To be clear, I dont think streak features or gamification are necessarily good or bad - they're just... neutral. But the way I (and apparently, you too!) approached the Headspace one was just wrong.
Follow-up question: did you ever pick up Spanish again? I did start meditation again, and occasionally keep it going for days in a row - then I break the streak on purpose as soon as I realise I am in the middle of one, just not to get tempted by the wrong thing again!

I'm yet to restart. Need some better way to learn and implement my learning. Currently, I have no "environment" where I can speak Spanish regularly.
